بدأت العملية بمرحلتين، تمثلت الأولى بتنفيذ عملية استطلاع وجمع المعلومات عن الموقع المستهدف، وقد تمكن أحد مجاهدي وحدة الكوماندوز البحري القسامية، من تنفيذ مهمة استطلاع داخل أرض العدو، واستطلاع موقع القيادة والسيطرة على ساحل زيكيم، قبل تنفيذ العملية.
ولأول مرة تكشف كتائب القسام أنها تمكنت من تنفيذ عملية الاستطلاع، وتمكن أحد مجاهديها المكوث لعدة ساعات على أرض العدو، لتنفيذ مهمته، ثم عاد الى قواعده بسلام .

وبعد 45 دقيقة وصلت المجموعة الثانية، فالتقت المجموعتان في قاعدة القيادة والسيطرة، ومن ثم قام المجاهدون بالاتصال مع القيادة الميدانية لكتائب القسام وإعلامهم أنهم في داخل الموقع، ثم شرعت المجموعتان بتطوير الهجوم باتجاه قاعدة زيكيم والاشتباك مع العدو بشكل مباشر.
في هذه اللحظات وبالتنسيق مع سلاح المدفعية، قامت مدفعية القسام بدك قاعدة زيكيم بقذائف الهاون وصواريخ 107، وتشكل بذلك هجوم ناجح باتجاه قاعدة زيكيم من قبل كوماندوز القسام، وكان هذا الهجوم بمثابة الضربة القوية التي فاجأت العدو، وأوقعت العديد من القتلى والجرحى في صفوف جنوده.
